About Texas Rising Stars
Compiled every year by Super Lawyers®, Rising Stars is a list dedicated to highlighting attorneys who have been in practice for 10 years or less, or are under the age of 40. The selection process is extremely rigorous, and only a small fraction of all attorneys in the state of Texas are named to this exclusive list.
The process begins with candidates being formally nominated. Lawyers may only be nominated by one of their peers in the same state—they may not nominate themselves. Likewise, each candidate is prohibited from “campaigning” or otherwise gaming the system in an effort to try and field as many nominations as possible.
Nominated candidates are then researched by an attorney-led staff to see what credentials they have obtained, what honors or awards they have earned, what lectures or writings they have done, and what other outstanding achievements they have obtained, including service to their community. These indicators of success are assigned a point value, and those with the highest point values are asked to serve on a “blue ribbon panel,” who then review candidates from their practice area and assign them a rating on a scale of one to five.
Those with the highest point totals from each category, including firm size and practice area, are selected as recipients of the honor. In fact, the Rising Stars list is capped at just 2.5 percent of all attorneys in the entire state!
